Advancing North Macedonia’s Grid Masterplan: Technical Workshop on variable RES integration as part of the MasterPlan Project

On 29 July 2026, COLENCO, together with its consortium partner DNV, held a technical workshop with representatives of MEPSO, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources of the Republic of North Macedonia as part of the EBRD-financed project “Supporting Smart Grid Infrastructure Planning and Development to Facilitate Accelerated and Reliable Renewable Energy Absorption.”

The workshop brought together the stakeholders to review the progress achieved under the Grid Masterplan and to discuss the next phase of the project, which focuses on the evaluation of candidate transmission projects that will support the integration of renewable energy and the future development of the transmission network.

The workshop focused on presenting the results of the completed Adequacy and Flexibility Assessment, the preliminary market dispatch modelling, and the proposed methodology and initial simulations for the Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) of the candidate transmission projects identified through the Grid Masterplan. It also provided an opportunity to review and validate the key modelling assumptions before commencing the final CBA simulations.

The workshop provided an excellent platform for constructive technical discussions and close cooperation. The agreed feedback will be incorporated into the next stage of the assignment, ensuring that the final analyses are completed in accordance with the project schedule.

COLENCO is proud to support MEPSO in the development of North Macedonia’s Grid Masterplan, contributing to a stronger, more resilient and future-ready transmission network that will facilitate the country’s energy transition and the integration of renewable energy sources.
