The main objective of this study is to determine possibilities for optimal utilization of the hydro power of the river Vardar. With the adoption of the possible solution for construction of the hydro system “Vardar valley”, the data referring to the configuration of the whole system and the parameters comprising the project as well as the options for management of the system shall be optimized and fully updated. This study shall analyse and determine the feasibility of the system from economic, operational, energy, social and environmental aspects.

Main scope of services:

  • The basic task of the Study is to determine optimal solution for hydro power utilization of the water potential of the river Vardar. In the adoption of the optimal solution of the hydro-system (HS) Vardar valley, at the same time, the following optimization has been performed:
    • The configuration of the system with the anticipated facilities
    • The parameters of the facilities composing the system and
    • System management

The analyses of the feasibility of the system (from economic, functional, energy, sociological and environmental aspect), are performed in the first part of the Study. The configuration, physical parameters of the system are determined. Thus, the optimization of the hydro system according to the economic and functional criteria is only possible if in parallel with the identification of the possible solutions the response of the system for representative hydrological load in the upcoming period of utilization is determined.

At the level of technical solutions, whereas the most favorable option for dam type and accompanying facilities (for normal level point) were selected, the type of HPP (for installed flow), were proposed.
