SCOPING STUDY ON GRID INVESTMENTS, STORAGE NEEDS AND POWER PLANTS REPURPOSING POTENTIAL TO SUPPORT INTEGRATION OF RENEWABLE SOURCES IN THE SOUTHWEST AND PELAGONIA REGIONS
The objective of this assignment is to provide technical assistance for the development of the scoping study on grid investments, storage needs, and power plants repurposing potential to support the integration of renewable sources in the Southwest and Pelagonia regions.
Main scope of services:
- Conduct grid assessment to support renewable energy integration in Pelagonia and Southwest Regions
- Review of documents relevant for grid development plans
- Identifying scenarios for RE deployment
- System level study and technical assessment of transmission infrastructure upgrade in the region, ensuring reliable connections for the planned new renewable energy capacity
- Identify relevant investment projects and their associated benefits
- identifying priority T&D projects (e.g. substation upgrades, new connection points and lines, smart grid management etc.).
- Identifying key technology-enabled and digital infrastructure elements
- Quantifying of the associated CAPEX
- Scoping study for the least cost low-carbon energy storage solutions to support integration of renewable energy and system security in the affected regions
- Identifying of storage needs in Southwest and Pelagonija regions
- Providing an overview of Best Available energy storage solutions that could be suitable for the North Macedonia context
- Detecting suitable locations in the region
- Estimation of the total investment cost
- Review of the grid connection and related electrical elements
- Assess repurposing options for Oslomej and Bitola power plants
- overview on the design and performance of the TPP units
- Identification of the appropriate optimal repurposing route
- Review of repurposing options for old coal assets
