Launch of Energy Trading Training for ESM
The energy trading training targeting employees from JSC Macedonian Power Plants (ESM) was launched on September 29, 2025 in the premises of the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources.
Under the EBRD financed project “Development of energy trading and project management skills of ESM”, COLENCO as Consultant has developed, facilitated and implemented the energy trading training programme aiming to enhance the professional skills of ESM employees. Under this training programme approximately 30 participants will undergo specialized training in energy trading, addressing the significant shortage of expertise in this field within North Macedonia and the wider Western Balkans.
The overall project objective is through the development and implementation of training programme to reduce the skills gap within ESM, improve the employability of young professionals in the energy sector, and integrate gender-responsive standards, including a target of at least 25% female participation.
The training will be delivered through a structured combination of interactive lectures, practical workshops, case studies, and simulations, ensuring participants acquire both strategic knowledge and practical competencies. The curriculum for energy trading covers intraday, day-ahead, and futures markets, development of trading strategies based on portfolio optimization, market analysis and price forecasting, as well as risk management using advanced tools and simulations. Participants will also gain a deeper understanding of cross-border trading mechanisms and the integration of renewable energy sources into trading decisions.
COLENCO continues to support this initiative that represents an important step in strengthening ESM’s institutional capacity and contributes to the long-term stability and modernization of the energy sector in North Macedonia.
