COLENCO awarded a Contract for consultancy services for an innovative renewable energy district heating project in Serbia
On August 5, 2025, representatives from COLENCO met with officials from the Ministry of Mining and Energy of the Republic of Serbia and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to officially launch one of the most forward-looking energy initiatives in the region. This innovative project will play a central role in Serbia’s decarbonization efforts by introducing renewable energy-powered district heating systems across ten cities and municipalities.
The initiative envisions the complete transformation of existing fossil-fuel-based heating systems by replacing them with a diverse mix of renewable sources, including geothermal energy, waste heat, heat pumps, and solar thermal technology. This project represents not only a technical shift but a strategic national commitment toward environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and economic resilience.
With a long-standing reputation in engineering and sustainability consulting, COLENCO has been entrusted with leading the consultant team responsible for managing and overseeing the full implementation of this project. In partnership with ADS Energo Concept from Novi Sad and Dornier Power and Heat GmbH as sub-contractors, COLENCO will ensure that the latest and most efficient technologies are integrated and as FIDIC and supervision engineer will ensure that selected contractors deliver solutions that are both competitive and future-proof. The impact of the Consultant’s services will be through this project to double the heat energy generated from renewable energy sources while decreasing CO2 emissions to 13.200 tones/year. The project is expected to last three years.
The Project is financed by loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and donations from the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), the Government of the Republic of Austria and the Regional Energy Efficiency Programme (REEP) of the European Union.
