Major News from COLENCO!

This week was marked by the official kick-off of the project: “Supporting Smart Grid Infrastructure Planning and Development to Facilitate Accelerated and Reliable Renewable Energy (RE) Absorption”. This is a significant step towards advancing Macedonia’s clean energy future! Having its focus on climate change, this important project is financed by the EBRD, and co-funded by Bloomberg Philanthropy and Austria Sub-Account HIPCA (High Impact Partnership and Climate Action), making it a multi-donor initiative guided by the EBRD.

COLENCO is honored to lead this transformative initiative in collaboration with our esteemed partner, DNV. Our clients for this endeavor are MEPSO and the Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources.

🚀 Project Goals:

• Support Macedonia’s transition to a low-carbon energy sector by phasing out coal
• Integrate 1.7 GW of renewable energy sources (RES)
• Strengthen the grid for energy security and sustainability
• Reduce CO2 emissions and improve air quality

💡 Key Focus Areas:

• Develop a grid Masterplan for renewable energy integration
• Upgrade the 400 kV national grid
• Address technical barriers to renewables integration
• Conduct Cost Benefit Analyses (CBA)
• Enhance MEPSO’s planning and operational capacity. Together, we’re excited to shape a sustainable and resilient energy future for Macedonia!
