Building the Future Grid: Start of Bitola–Albania Transmission Line
Colenco took part in today’s milestone event marking the official start of construction of the approximately 100 km long, 400 kV interconnection transmission line from SS “Bitola 2” to the North Macedonia–Albania border — a project led by MEPSO and supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Union (EU).
In the role of supervision consultant, Colenco will oversee the implementation of this strategically important project, ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and technical performance across all phases.
The project represents a key segment of the regional Energy Corridor 8 and contributes to strengthening the interconnectivity and resilience of the power system in the Western Balkans. It will enhance cross-border electricity exchange, improve security of supply, and increase overall grid stability and flexibility. At the same time, it supports market integration and enables further integration of renewable energy sources.
The event gathered representatives from government institutions, transmission system operators, project stakeholders, and international financial institutions, highlighting the broader regional significance of the initiative.
